How can I improve my search results on a research topic?

Perhaps you tried entering your topic and the results are irrelevant.  Or you'd just like to learn how to use the advanced search feature and improve your keywords.  If so, this FAQ is for you!

We can use different words to answer the same question.  You may say "bubbler" and I may say "drinking fountain" - while we are referring to the same thing.  The same is true with research articles. Finding the best terminology that is most commonly used (e.g. on a national or global basis) may mean skimming entries for vocabulary terms.  Once you have the right words or phrases, you can use an advanced search to dictate exactly what you'd like the system to find.  Here is an example of this process:
